The so-called "Golden Book" of the Pfäfers Abbey, today kept in the Archive of St. Gallen (Switzerland), is one of the most interesting books in medieval art production. The codex contains three parts:
Part 1 is an evangelistary, produced in the famous school of Reichenau during the 11th century. Four breathtaking miniatures showing the four evangelists mark the beginning of each gospel. Alltogether 31 perikopes from these gospels are decorated with golden initials. abbots Part 2 is a historical document containing a list of abbots, law texts and compilations of the abbey´s properties, decorated with coloured ink drawings in the so-called International Soft Style, dated around 1400. The third part, created around 1450 is a german translation from supplements of the first part.
